He kidnaps Chrissy, thus sparking a final showdown between him and Alex. He turns out to be Vigo (he caught on to 21st-century technology quickly). ![]() Chrissy, Amy's unrelentingly bratty, rebellious eighth-grade sister, agrees to meet in person a guy she met on Facebook. Also, Amy is good friends with the super-hip school librarian, who used to study a little-known branch of science called "literary physics." She still has connections at the university, where she can borrow special equipment for locating portals between dimensions, thus providing Alex a way to get back to Otherworld. Amy's clueless mom allows Alex, a moody boy she's never met, to stay at their apartment for a few days, thus providing a snug environment for the teens to bond. The development of the story relies heavily on convenience and the unbelievable, predictable traits of a one-dimensional cast. Without knowing how, Alex chases Vigo, an evil vampire, through a temporary portal and ends up in Amy's real world of modern-day Chicago. She adores Alex, the handsome vampire-slayer protagonist. Gr 8 Up-Amy, 17, is a huge fan of the popular "Otherworld" novels. ![]()

If you liked this novel don't come at me. This isn't my first PD book and to this day Birthday Girl is one of my favorite romances, but to me this was just awful. I was so disturbed I skipped all the streamy parts because I just couldn't read how this girl confused sex with being loved. In real life she would have ended 6 feet under either because he kills her in one of his violent episodes or she just ends it herself. She is truly terrified of him but we are supposed to believe that deep down he loves her and they get their HEA. The dude she ends up with (spoiler /TW): almost raped her, gets physical with her in countless occasion, spits on her face and writes "slut" on her forehead. The female character convinces herself all the abuse she goes through is somehow love. And constantly justifies it with the character's shitty past. What honestly disturbed the most me was the fact that PD romanticizes all the abuse the girl goes through. I have read countless taboo/dark romance stories and none of them made me feel like this. Just finished reading this book and I feel sickened. ![]() ![]() ![]() And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed "dating hiatus," and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. ![]() Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women.
